How To Contact Government OfficialsIt has been a combination of factors over the past several years that led us to the financial problems we are now having but the bottom line is that Saline Area Schools cannot keep absorbing cuts while the legislature keeps increasing our costs. A few key costs that school districts face are increasing faster than the cost of inflation, including expenses for employee health care and pensions. The increase in retirement costs alone for next year will cost schools an estimated $105 per student. According to the Citizens Research Council, any foundation increases that the state might provide in the next couple of years will be completely absorbed by mandatory increases in districts' employee retirement contributions. Your legislators need to know how you feel! |
