Welcome To Saline Area Schools

Upcoming Community Conversation Dates

E-mail Print PDF
Saline Area School Community,

This past October, I had the opportunity at two "Community Conversation" events to learn more about what interested community members see as the strengths of Saline Area Schools, and what areas they felt we needed to focus attention on for improvement.  Through these conversations and other opportunities, I have learned a great deal about how many of you see our district and it has helped guide me, along with the Board of Education, as we move forward.

In an effort to continue this dialogue, I am again scheduling "Community Conversation" dates on Wednesday, January 14th from 6:30pm- 8:00pm at The Drowsy Parrot, 105 N. Ann Arbor St. and Wednesday, January 21st from 6:30pm-8:00pm at The Saline District Library, 555 N. Maple Rd.   Please stop by, say hello, and bring any thoughts about  the district you feel I should know.

Thank you,
Scot Graden

E-mail Print PDF
Saline Area Schools Community,

Saline Area Schools is committed to providing quality early childhood options for all Saline families, even in these difficult financial times.  Due to funding changes involving the Young 5's and Half-Day Kindergarten programs we are in the process of adapting our program offerings. Information on the plans for the 2009-2010 and the timeline for decisions regarding the 2010-2011 school year are listed below.

2009-2010
Staff are currently gathering information and reviewing plans for developmentally appropriate program options targeting students with fall birth dates. (Current Young 5's target)  The options include offering a tuition-based half-day program.  Current planning indicates yearly tuition of approximately $4,500 ($113 per week) with a class size maximum of 15.  In addition, Houghton staff continues to explore innovative options for alternative programs to meet the needs of this "Young 5's" based group.  A final decision regarding these options will be made no later than January 31st.

Saline Area Schools will offer Half Day Kindergarten and the Extended Day Option for the 2009-2010 school year.  Families interested in the Extended Day Option should plan on attending an informational night on February 3rd at Houghton School for more information.

2010-2011
By February 6th, 2009, a planning committee involving parents and staff will be established to review Kindergarten options for the 2010-2011 school year.  The committee will report recommendations to the Superintendent by May 15th.

For the second year in a row, the Automotive Technology classes held at Saline High School raised money to support the Lenawee County Department of Human Services Adopt-A-Family program. This year the classes raised $1,065 to support a family in need.  The program is coordinated by Ms. Lauchu (Her classes raised an additional $1,700 for 4 families!) worked to locate the family to adopt.
With the large amount of money raised this year the classes decided to adopted two families!  Teachers, students, educational support staff, parents and community businesses all gave generously to the cause. Seven students, CTE Center Technician Mrs. Mary Howley-Visel and Automotive Teacher Mr. Timoszyk went on a shopping spree Tuesday night at Meijer's.
