Five Themes of Geography
During
this first unit of study, students have completed several in class and homework
assignments
intended to introduce them to, and help them better understand, the Five Themes
of Geography. Some of those assignments are listed below.

Themes Graphic Organizer
- large piece of construction paper with definitions and magazine pictures
to represent each theme. (Began in class/completed for homework, if necessary)These
are due on Thursday, Sept. 23rd and may be used in completing the QUEST.
- Five
Themes Observations
- Homework assignment in which students were asked to make observations of
the themes in their daily lives. (download a copy
of the form here) These are due on Thursday, Sept. 23rd and may be used
in
completing the QUEST.
- Five
Themes QUEST
- Students are allowed to use their completed Graphic
Organizers while taking the quiz/test. Ask your child how he/she did.
- Welcome
to Saline! -
writing assignment in which students tell about Saline by using
examples of
the five themes that they have observed. This assignment
will be included as part of our QUEST on Thursday, Sept. 23rd.

Themes Game Card
- in-class
assignment. Students will be researching a city located in one of the regions
we will study
this year. From their research notes they are to write 5 clues about their
city - one based on each of the 5 themes. They must also draw a picture
of
a human or physical feature of the city, and a map showing the location of
their city within its continent, or region of a continent. Students have
a
2 page handout detailing the requirements of the assignment. The
cards are due Thursday, September
30.
