Mrs. Franzel
Reading – c209
3rd Block
Welcome! In this class, we will be working on strengthening your reading and vocabulary skills. We will also be doing some small writing assignments in response to our reading. There may also be opportunities for students to bring reading from other classes that I may be able to assist with. It is also my hope that we can visit the library frequently to familiarize ourselves with its contents and how to use it most effectively.
Needed for this class…
Bell Work
When the bell rings, class is to begin immediately. Each student will be made aware of what work they are to begin when they arrive.
Reading Log
I require 15 minutes of independent reading outside of class at least four times per week. You will be given a log where you can track what you have read. I will occasionally request that you change genres. For example, I may ask you to read some non-fiction sometime during the week rather than fiction. I am also available to help and assist you in finding reading materials that are of interest to you and are at your reading level.
Planners
I require that a planner be used in my class and encourage it be used for all of your classes. Before the end of the period, I will check planners to see that they are filled out for the day. If you have lost your planner that was issued to you at the beginning of the year, you may purchase a new one in the office or use “planner sheets” which I will provide for you on a weekly basis.
Grading
Special Reminders
During this class we will be breaking for lunch. I am on the B Lunch schedule. We will break at 11:30 and return at 12:00 M, T, Th, & F and at 11:40 on Wednesdays. I expect students to return from lunch get back to work immediately or be ready for instructions on our next lesson.
I expect students to be engaged in learning when in class. What this means is that you should be paying attention and working on assignments throughout the class period. I will monitor this and there seems to be a problem, consequences may follow.
Water is allowed in class. Do not bring food or unfinished lunch back to the classroom!
The school code of conduct must be followed at all times.
I am glad to meet all of you and I look forward to sharing a great semester with you. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to see me during the beginning of class or after school or during my planning period which is 2nd block.
