MACHINE TOOL TECHNOLOGY
(CAD/CNC)
Prerequisite: Grades 11-12
Welcome to the South and West Washtenaw Consortium (SWWC) Machine Tool program. This class is designed to train students in the modern computerized manufacturing industry. The class offers skills to students that are interested in engineering, advanced drafting, manufacturing, as well as a machining. Training will take place with state of the art equipment and software that many industries use today. There will be basic machining operations on the lathe, mills, band saw, horizontal saw, drill press, surface grinder, and various CNC machines. Students will understand measurements, machinist tools, inspection devices, speeds and feeds, high-speed tooling, carbide tooling, G-code programming, and different styles of coolant and abrasives. The students will also become familiar with various types of software including: Auto CAD, Master CAM, and Art CAM. Throughout the class, students will be working on various projects that will prepare them for certification through the National Institute of Machining Skills (N.I.M.S) program. They will also be qualified for advanced placement credit through Washtenaw Community College and Ferris State University.
INTRODUCTION TO DRAFTING
(Drafting/CAD)
Prerequisite: None
Introduction to Drafting and CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) is open to any student. It is designed to provide the student with an opportunity to explore the many areas of drawing and to deveolp an understanding and appreciation for current drafting practices and procedures. Through problem-solving exercises the student will be able to develop a basic knowledge of the skills used in drafting-related careers. This class will provide an interdisciplinary connection to problem solving, mathematics, computers, and science
CAD/CAM
(CAD/CAM/CNC/Engineering Technology)
Prerequisite: Grades 11-12
This is a class in computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided machining (CAM). Automated manufacturing, rapid prototyping, tabletop manufacturing, CAD/CAM, and CNC programming are industry standards that students need to know to compete in tomorrow’s job market and also prepare them for college. Students considering entering the field of engineering, design, machine tool, or any aspect of manufacturing will benefit from this class. Using state of the art software (MasterCam), students will gain job skills and college level experience in CAD/CAM programming. Maximum benefits to the students occur if Machine Tool Technology is taken with this course during the student’s junior or senior year. However, it can be taken as a course in itself for interested juniors or seniors. This class will give students the power to design and visualize the 3D, generate tool paths and NC-code, and produce the drawn part using a variety of industrial three axis machine tools. Rapid prototyping and preproduction using CAD/CAM technology is in high demand and is considered to be an essential skill in design and engineering professions as well as many manufacturing technologies today.
