In Social Studies we have just finished with unit one in our text book Americans and Our Environment. This unit has gone hand-in-hand with our discussions of Core Democratic Values (CDV) and Government (which we are just starting this week). Students have been learning what CDV are and where they originated from. We are also learning about the three branches of government and what the responsibilities of each branch are. CDV bingo was a big hit last week...keep practicing at home because those will reappear on our first test.

Main idea we have been learning about are:

* The United States is a diverse country, but its people share a number of basic beliefs and values.

* Citizenship in a democratic republic involves rights and responsibilities.

* Core Democratic Values help to guide our country in decision making and lay out common beliefs about how our country runs.

* The government is broken into three main branches that help to balance power in our country.

Here are some great web sights to visit that go along with what we are learning in class!
